Having to choose 13 songs from The Beatles is not an easy task. Cap Moreno mixed this sequence that takes you from a very personal point of view and while there is no chronological nor symbolic arrangement, the session becomes a whole by the smooth, tripped transitions, focusing mostly on the more Psychodelic songs leaving aside the very first, more pop albums.
A little mixing and dubbing took place, nevertheless it stayed true to the originals.

SANTANA BLUES BAND / SANTANA I (1969 First album of legendary guitar player)

SANTANA by Carlos Santana and the Santana Blues Band is the very first album by this amazing rock band. Their unique fusion, and the critical movement that was taking placing in the USA and the whole world for that matter, created the perfect momentum for this phenomenal kind of music.
Heavily influeced by the latin jazz scene that ruled the early and mid 60's and spiritual approach to it allowed for a mystical conection with the audieces then and even nowadays this album can take you really "high".
Please note, that similar to what happened to The Beatles (people thinking Lenon was the "only" one that counts) Santana, was not the art and magic of Carlos alone, then again the Santana Blues Band was musically driven by organ master Gregg Rollie, and the rest of the mebers , Jorge "Chepito" Areas, David Brown, Michael Shrieve and Michael Carabello made each one of them their proper part in crafting this superb and no doubt "classic" album.
The Mystic Soul Sacifice is found in this album,song that the band perfomed memorably in the 1969 woodstock festival and can be fully appreciated in the documentary film making them forever famous.

AFRICAN PARADISE / VA (2009 MASTERSUN / NU_AFRICAN BEATS)

AFRICAN PARADISE is a fabulous compilation just released in from MasterSun (France) which introduced me to a whole new african beats and grooves with a surprising jazzy, downtempo feel to it, I had never quite enjoyed before.
Then again these pieces are not only about drums and chants but also some ultra cool winds and metals very Nu-Jazz like, can be heard all along.
New names also call for my attention as I eagerly look forward to listen more of them.
This isn't an official comment but I guess you can say this album is a bit of the African Buddah Bar of the moment.

EASY STAR LONELY HEART'S DUB BAND (2009 Dub tribute to the legendary Beatles album)

Ever since the Dub Side of the moon was released, The Easy Star ALl- Stars have gained respect all over the world. They had pretty much the same impact with their RadioDread homage to OK Computer. What could they do next? I wondered too at the time. Wise choice. I just recently heard this magnificient tribute thanks to the really cool dudes at their blog I spread the word and every fan I know of this classic album loved it. I couldn't wait any longer and I went to get mine. I yourself with this imprenscindible piece of work. A true gem for Beatles and Reggae alike and no doubt a fantastic start point to get to know a bit more of both for those who haven't already. Five stars from me!

JAZZED IV is the fourth mixtape by music collector and DJ aficionado Cap Moreno. True to the previous 3 releases, it has a beggining, a midle and an end. Starting with some roots divas such Ella Fitzgerald & Nina Simone.
All from the start it's Cap Moreno's attempt to keep a fast paced beat while enjoying some really cool perfomances. Still under the roots cathegory but taking a slight turn towards funk, soul and even some hip hop,and trunablism, with a very nice vocal theme by Laurin Hill of the Fugees right in the midle.
Moving towards the end we are taken by various european acid jazz and nu jazz figures such as Club Des Belugas, Jazzinvaders, Trüby Trio , being Ganrls Barkley's soulful fusions that set the sun. Expect a couple of subtle surprises at the very end with a really smooth bonus track.
Treat yourelf with this awesome selection of Jazzists, Urban & Bass culture and a memorable set of musicians with a very Update & Upbeat approach. Feedfack highly appreciated.

CITY of GOD / CIUDADE DE DEUS /2002 SOUNDTRACK to THE REMARKABLE BRAZILIAN FILM)

City of God is a brutal, compelling real life story of the very mean streets of 1960's-1980's Rio de Janeiro. The soundtrack, a combination of classic rock and funk, mixed and more specifically Brazilian-flavored fare, is equally energetic and intriguing.

Told through the eyes of a young photographer, Busca-Pé, the film shows multiple generations of young gangsters in the Cidade de Deus (City of God) section of Rio. With each violent death of a gangster, another even more violent gangster takes his place. What is the most shocking is how young these gangsters are. Though frenetic and actually fun in places, the film never loses sight of how vicious its subject matter is, and the violence never seems glorified or indulgent. Moreover, we as an audience never lose a real sense of threat, and as Busca-Pé nears escaping the streets and getting a legit job at a newspaper, we worry that he may not make it out alive.

The soundtrack firmly roots the story in the time periods of the film, from the 1960's to the 1980's, with era-specific music. While doing that, the music is still emotionally relevant and complementary to the scenes and also culturally specific. Perhaps in the only way the subject matter could be watchable, the music pushes us rapidly from scene to scene; we are taking in the environment without it sinking in too deeply all at once. There is a good balance between fast-paced club and lounge music and slower, more emotionally poignant pieces.

The one downside to some would be that the soundtrack has few unified themes or motifs. As a collection of source pieces, we never get one single vision of the place. Honestly, though, this criticism is not valid, given that the whole point is to show how eclectic and diverse the setting is.

For listeners who like Latin sounds or are fans of the film, this is a great CD. Also, if you are interested in getting into Latin music, this is a good choice, given how accessible the pieces here are. If you are not any of the above, this is probably one to stay away from.
